Hudson Valley fizz with a sense of place. Whitecliff is the standard-bearer for serious Hudson River winemaking, the Gardiner estate founded by Michael Migliore and Yancey Stanforth-Migliore back in 1999 and now run day-to-day by their son Tristan. North River is their pétillant naturel — a low-intervention sparkler made in the méthode ancestrale, fermented to dryness in bottle with no disgorging, no dosage, no makeup. The result is a slightly hazy, gently fizzy, refreshingly dry sparkling wine that wears its New York address proudly: tart orchard fruit, citrus pith, a savory herbal lift, and a chalky little snap on the finish. Pour it cold, pour it casually, and you've got the kind of wine that makes a strong case for the Hudson Valley.
