Bordeaux-style blend from South Africa's first Black female winemaker. Ntsiki Biyela founded Aslina in 2016, naming it for her late grandmother. Stellenbosch University trained; previously winemaker at Stellakaya for over a decade (hired 2004). Woman Winemaker of the Year 2009. "Umsasane" means acacia tree in Zulu—also her grandmother's nickname. Blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot. 16 months in French oak, 30% new. Based in Stellenbosch with fruit sourced from Stellenbosch and Elgin.

More about Aslina

Aslina Wines was founded in 2016 by Ntsiki Biyela, South Africa's first black female winemaker, named after her grandmother. She self-funded the project and released wines in 2017: Cabernet, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and a Bordeaux-style blend called Umsasane. She's working Stellenbosch's finest terroirs with zero compromise. This is wine made by someone who had to invent her own path. The quality is formidable.
