A benchmark Oregon Pinot from one of the Willamette Valley's pioneering families, who planted in an old walnut grove in the Eola-Amity Hills back in 1977. This estate bottling pulls from their home vineyard high in the volcanic hills, where afternoon winds funneling through the Van Duzer Corridor keep the fruit cool and the wines fresh and detailed. The 2023 is a sleek, classically built vintage that drinks beautifully young but has the structure to hold for a decade. A great house style: red-fruited, mineral, and built on finesse rather than weight.

"The 2023 Pinot Noir Estate opens with a vibrant blend of crushed cherries and blackberries, elevated by sweet herbal tones and a nuance of spice. Juicy acidity enlivens depths of crisp wild berry fruit and mineral notes. The finish is pleasantly grippy, tapering off chewy and long with a tinge of licorice that lingers." —Eric Guido

"The 2023 Pinot Noir Estate has slowly unfolding scents of rhubarb, blackberry, blood orange, lavender and iron. The medium-bodied palate features concentrated, floral flavors. It’s framed by fine, chalky tannins and vibrant acidity and has a long, nuanced finish. It will benefit from time in a decanter." —Erin Brooks

"Tightly wound and full of tension, with sinewy flavors of blueberry and raspberry framed by stony mineral and dusky spice notes. Finishes with firm tannins. Needs time. Best from 2026 through 2033."

More about Bethel Heights

There's a reason the Willamette Valley has become synonymous with Pinot Noir produced in the United States, and Bethel Heights makes some of the best-- not to mention incredible Chardonnays as well!

In 1977 the Casteel family bought 75 acres of promising looking land northwest of Salem, which has now grown to over 100 acres. Since their first commercial vintage in 1984 the wine has always been produced by the Casteel family, with patriarch Terry at the helm until 2006, when his son Ben took over as winemaker.

The land has been the family's home for nearly 40 years and they treat it with the love and respect you'd expect: they are certified sustainable and on the forefront of the Willamette's eco-friendly practices.

This commitment to the land, in conjunction with the perfectly suited terroir, results in some spectacular wines (both red and white). The Casteels pride themselves on terroir-driven wines, and in fact all but one of the Pinots they produce are named after a place. This is also the reason they grow Chardonnay: it expresses the terroir perfectly.
