On Wednesday, September 11, we are excited to welcome Marco Biliorsi to our mezzanine for a seminar on Tuscany through the lens of Brunello producer Caparzo and Chianti Classico producer Borgo Scopeto. These two classically styled houses represent the spectrum of Tuscany's greatest wines, crafting Chianti Classico, Super Tuscans, and Vin Santo at Borgo Scopeto and Rosso di Montalcino and Brunello di Montalcino at Caparzo.

Biliorsi was born in Montalcino (Siena, Italy) and has always been surrounded by vineyards producing quality wine. From 1996 to 1997, he was responsible for hospitality and business-client relations and the Italian salesperson at Tenuta Col d’Orcia spa in Montalcino. In 2003, he obtained a degree in International Political Science at the University of Siena and received his certification as a Sommelier A.I.S. (Associazione Italiana Sommelier). Following his graduation, he ran the Liberamente Osteria Wine Bar in Siena, and from 2006 to 2009, he was responsible for hospitality at Borgo Scopeto and Caparzo SRL, a wonderful Tuscan wine group including Caparzo (Brunello di Montalcino), Borgo Scopeto (Chianti Classico), and Doga delle Clavule (Morellino di Scansano). In 2009, he became the Export Assistant Manager for this group. In 2010, he was promoted to Area Sales Manager for different key markets in Europe and areas of North Italy.

We will taste an exciting selection of wines from both estates, along with light bites. Seating is limited. Tickets for this class are $40 and a $20 store credit will be issued with your purchase.

A Very Special Spätburgunder: Wasenhaus' In-Demand Pinot Noir

Wasenhaus is, without doubt, one of the most talked about wine estates in Germany, if not the world.

Over the last few years, their showstopping collection of Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir), Weissburgunder (Pinot Blanc) and Chardonnay have created a rabid following — overnight, it seems, the wines went from insider secret to heavily allocated and collectible. To anyone who has had the pleasure of drinking these wines, their cult status is no surprise. They are simply stunning.

An Ethereal Chardonnay from the Willamette's Wonderful Kelley Fox

Our offer today comes from a winemaker who’s long had both our staff and customers smitten. Upon first discovery of Kelley Fox, you might learn about her biodynamic and regenerative principles, listen to her discuss her “vulnerable" and "non-hierarchical” approach to winemaking, or even admire the fanciful, fairytale-like artwork on her labels. And you might anticipate from this a rather dreamy, head-in-the-clouds winemaking style not unheard of in crunchy Oregon, but often a bit light on technique.
