Fichet on his home turf, with seven years in bottle. Jean-Philippe Fichet is one of Meursault's most quietly revered producers, a self-made vigneron who founded his estate in 1985. His village Meursault is the platonic Fichet expression: barrel-fermented with essentially no new oak, raised for a patient eighteen months on the lees with almost no stirring, the terroir laid bare. 2018 was the warm, generous bookend of his recent vertical — and at seven years on, the Meursault is exactly where you want it. Expect a rich palate of baked apple, hazelnut and beeswax, the creamy mid-palate that has made Meursault famous, and the saline lift Fichet always finds underneath. A textbook drinking-window Meursault from one of the appellation's most honest interpreters.

"The 2018 Meursault Village offers grapefruit, blood orange and light candle wax aromas on the nose that needs a little coaxing from the glass. The palate is taut and crisp on the entry. This has very fine acidity with impressive tension and salinity on the finish. This Meursault from Fichet comes recommended." —Neal Martin

More about Jean-Philippe Fichet

A tireless devotee of Meursault's terroir, Fichet works his vines from dawn to dusk with severe pruning and relentless focus. His Aligoté shatters the grape's reputation for anonymity—crystalline, focused, with the stoniness of serious Burgundy. This is proof that Aligoté, in the right hands, becomes a wine worth seeking out.
