Before the labels switched to "Rocche dell'Annunziata Riserva" starting with the 2015 vintage, Lorenzo Accomasso bottled the same wine simply as "Barolo Annunziata Riserva" — the same prized La Morra parcels, the same Riserva treatment of five-plus years in 50-hectoliter Slavonian botti. The 2013 vintage is widely regarded as one of Piedmont's great modern classics: structured, precise, generous in its acidity, built to age for decades. Made by Lorenzo himself in the deeply traditional manner he never wavered from — long concrete macerations, no filtration, minimal sulfur — this is a wine of remarkable purity and tension, just now beginning its long drinking window.

"The 2013 Barolo Riserva Rocche dell’Annunziata is one of the best wines I have tasted from Lorenzo Accomasso. Bright and punchy, with tremendous persistence, the 2013 marries La Morra sensuality with classicism to a degree that is compelling. Moreover, the harsh notes and rusticity that once so severely penalized these wines are less of an issue with each passing vintage. Ripe dark red/plum fruit, mocha, spice, leather, iron and licorice open in the glass. More importantly, the 2013 Riserva is a style of Barolo meant to be enjoyed mature, with a whole complement of tertiary notes that develop over long aging. It's not a crime to open a bottle young, but to get the full Accomasso experience, readers should wait until the 2013 is at least 15-20 years old."

What has to say about this wine:

Tasting Notes & Food Pairings

Perfect Pairings

Brasato al Barolo, wild boar ragù over pappardelle, truffled tajarin, or a feast of roasted porcini, herbed polenta, and aged hard cheeses like Bra Duro or Castelmagno. A wine that deserves — and rewards — a proper, multi-course Piedmontese table.

Tasting Profile

Pure, structured, and tightly coiled, with rose petal, red cherry, dried orange, tar, and a deep mineral undertow. Classical Barolo Riserva with vibrant acidity and the kind of fine, persistent tannin that promises decades.
