A walled premier cru monopole with four centuries of history in the glass. The Clos des Ursules is a 1.26-hectare plot inside Beaune's Vignes Franches that Louis Jadot's founding family has owned since 1826, originally tended by Ursuline nuns. Bottled under the Domaine des Heritiers label, it's widely considered Jadot's finest Beaune, showing real structure and a cool, dark-fruited profile. The 2005 was an outstanding, structured Burgundy vintage built for the long haul. Two decades on, it's entering a lovely mature window. Decant and enjoy over the next several years.

"The most refined of this group of Beaune 1ers with the most aromatic complexity as well to the beautiful blend of red, black and violet notes that introduce rich, suave and velvety medium full flavors that are classy, powerful and vibrant. This is a bigger and bolder wine than the Boucherottes but the balance and purity of the former holds its own with the size and weight of the Ursules. A stylistic choice."

"Jadot’s flagship 2005 Beaune Vignes Franches Clos des Ursules leads with high-toned cherry, tarragon, and brown spice aromas, displays a juicy, ripe, fresh fruit palate impression, and finishes with subtle herbal and spicy inflections as well as a hint of roughness. The overall impression is of considerable density, energy, and tannin, and I think this has been caught at a less than optimal moment as regards its tannins and for translating its concentration and ripeness into flavor personality." —David Schildknecht

Wine Spectator

"Enticing sweet blackberry and black currant flavors, with a touch of spice and mineral for complexity. Very pure, with harmony and finesse—all the components for a long life. Lingering aftertaste of cassis and mineral."

More about Louis Jadot

Founded in 1859, Jadot is one of Burgundy's great estates and négociants, with 600 acres scattered across the region's best vineyards—Chablis to Moulin-à-Vent. They make hundreds of wines, but each bottle carries the iconic Bacchus emblem and the weight of nearly two centuries of accumulated wisdom. Burgundy without the pretension.
