Les Baudes is a small, often-overlooked Chambolle Premier Cru tucked right against Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru on the Morey-Saint-Denis side of the village. The vineyard borrows weight and structure from its Grand Cru neighbor while retaining Chambolle's signature perfume, which makes it a wine that punches well above its 1er Cru station. Louis Jadot, with Frederic Barnier at the cellar helm, has long shown a deft hand with Chambolle's nuances. The classical 2017 vintage delivered Cote de Nuits Pinots of finesse and clarity, and this Baudes is now entering a lovely stretch of drinkability with years of further development to come.

Antonio Galloni

94 points

"The 2017 Chambolle-Musigny Les Baudes 1er Cru has an airy, well-defined, transparent bouquet that is more feminine and refined than the Les Sentiers. The palate of sappy red fruit is medium-bodied and harmonious, offering fine acidity and ample red currant and cranberry fruit toward the finish. This is one of the best Premier Crus that I tasted from Jadot this vintage." —Neal Martin

Robert Parker

93 points

"The 2017 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Baudes (Domaine Gagey) opens in the glass with a youthfully reticent bouquet of red cherries, raspberries, licorice and spices. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, fleshy and nicely concentrated, with good depth at the core underpinned by juicy acids and fine, chalky tannin. This is typically one of the finest premiers crus in the Jadot range, and this year's rendition is no exception." —William Kelley

More about Louis Jadot

Founded in 1859, Jadot is one of Burgundy's great estates and négociants, with 600 acres scattered across the region's best vineyards—Chablis to Moulin-à-Vent. They make hundreds of wines, but each bottle carries the iconic Bacchus emblem and the weight of nearly two centuries of accumulated wisdom. Burgundy without the pretension.

Tasting Notes & Food Pairings

Perfect Pairings

Roast chicken with morels, veal medallions in a light cream sauce, or grilled quail. Risotto with mushrooms or truffled pasta brings out the wine's earthy undertones. Aged Comte to finish.

Tasting Profile

Crushed raspberry, red currant, and violet float over hints of damp earth and sweet baking spice. The palate is sleek and graceful, with the slight extra muscle Baudes draws from its Bonnes-Mares neighbor. Fine tannins, lingering perfumed finish.
