One of Gevrey-Chambertin's most aristocratic premier crus, from a benchmark Burgundy house. Lavaux Saint-Jacques sits on the upper slope just below the grand crus, on limestone-rich soils that give Gevrey its trademark power and stony depth. Maison Louis Jadot bottles it in a firm, classic, age-worthy style. The 2005 vintage was one of the great recent years for structured red Burgundy, and after two decades this wine has earned its maturity. Decant before serving and enjoy over the coming years.

Burghound

95 points

"Here the nose is decidedly fresher with ripe, expressive and dense red berry fruit nuanced with ample Gevrey earth that continues onto the rich, full and very vibrant flavors that are delicious and built to age, culminating in a hugely long finish that does a slow build from the mid-palate on back. This is as good a young Jadot Clos St. Jacques as I can remember in some time. In short, there is formidable potential here." —Allen Meadows

Antonio Galloni

91 points

"Deep ruby-red. Wild aromas of black fruits, bitter chocolate and smoked meat. Sweeter on entry than the Estournelles, then powerful and rather closed, and showing a bit less inner-palate detail today. This dense, meaty, chocolatey wine is clearly from deeper soil." —Stephen Tanzer

More about Louis Jadot

Founded in 1859, Jadot is one of Burgundy's great estates and négociants, with 600 acres scattered across the region's best vineyards—Chablis to Moulin-à-Vent. They make hundreds of wines, but each bottle carries the iconic Bacchus emblem and the weight of nearly two centuries of accumulated wisdom. Burgundy without the pretension.
