Vosne's largest 1er Cru, from one of Burgundy's most reliable big names, drinking now at mid-maturity. Maison Louis Jadot operates as both a négociant and grower out of Beaune — Frédéric Barnier has been technical director since 2013 (succeeding the legendary Jacques Lardière). Les Suchots is the biggest of Vosne-Romanée's 1er Crus, a long strip of vines wedged between Échezeaux Grand Cru to the north and Romanée-Saint-Vivant to the south. It sits on deeper, richer clay-limestone soils than the Grand Crus above it, producing wines with weight and perfume rather than sheer power. 2011 was a warm, early-drinking Burgundy vintage; fourteen years on, this is well into its mature window — silky, evolved, perfumed with rose petal, forest floor, and dark cherry. Drink soon.

"There is still enough wood to notice on the spicy and menthol-inflected dark cherry, cassis and plus suffused nose. The suave, round and velvety middle weight flavors display an abundance of mouth coating dry extract along with fine complexity and very good if not truly striking length on the moderately austere and firm finish."

Antonio Galloni

90 points

"Good bright red. Reticent but pure nose shows a medicinal reserve to the aromas of redcurrant, fresh herbs and spices. Spicy, saline and juicy in the mouth if a bit tightly wound. The tangy redcurrant, pomegranate, pepper and fresh herb flavors are intense but youthfully imploded today." —Stephen Tanzer

Robert Parker

"The 2011 Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru Les Suchots has a lucid ruby color. The bouquet is very pure and sensual with lovely ripe red currant and fresh strawberry fruit that is beautifully interwoven with the oak. The palate is medium-bodied with a slightly herbaceous entry. Brittle tannins and chalky in texture but fine focus on the finish, this is a satisfying Les Suchots. Drink 2015-2025." —Neal Martin

Wine Spectator

91 points

"A vibrant, compact style, with cherry, currant, cinnamon and mineral flavors. Very elegant and long, with a distinctive chalky feel, tightening up on the finish. Best from 2017 through 2025."

More about Louis Jadot

Founded in 1859, Jadot is one of Burgundy's great estates and négociants, with 600 acres scattered across the region's best vineyards—Chablis to Moulin-à-Vent. They make hundreds of wines, but each bottle carries the iconic Bacchus emblem and the weight of nearly two centuries of accumulated wisdom. Burgundy without the pretension.

Tasting Notes & Food Pairings

Perfect Pairings

Mature Vosne deserves classical Burgundian fare: roast squab or duck, beef bourguignon, coq au vin, mushroom risotto with truffle, or aged Époisses and Brillat-Savarin at the end of the meal.

Tasting Profile

Medium-bodied, silky and perfumed — rose petal, dried dark cherry, forest floor, sous-bois, and warm spice. Tannins fully resolved, bright acid still pulling, lingering on a savory, slightly sweet earthy finish.
