Southeast-facing slopes get morning sun and afternoon shade: that's the terroir advantage of Les Champs Gains, and you taste it in how this Chassagne blanc balances sun-ripeness with mineral freshness. From 4.6 hectares on the midslope, this wine offers neither the brightest nor densest of Pillot's whites, but rather something nuanced—a middle path that rewards slow sips. The southeast exposition makes for wines with generous fruit but taut structure, whites that drink young but age gracefully.

Antonio Galloni

"The 2023 Chassagne-Montrachet Champ Gain 1er Cru has a little more phenolics on the nose compared to the Les Masures, with just a hint of peach skin in the background behind the more malic scents. The palate is well balanced with a fresh citric line of acidity, and a dab of sour lemon decorates the finish. Hardcore…in a good way." —Neal Martin

Robert Parker

"Pillot always seems to achieve good cut and tension in this climat, and his 2023 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Champs Gain is once again very nicely proportioned, opening in the glass with notes of peach, minty pear and white flowers, followed by a medium to full-bodied, taut and chalky palate." —William Kelley

More about Paul Pillot

Domaine Paul Pillot was founded in 1900 by Jean-Baptiste Pillot, a barrel maker who decided vines were his real calling. Paul took over in 1968, expanded into premier cru sites, and his son Thierry joined in 1999, taking over full-time in 2004. Now Thierry and sister Chrystelle are among the most exciting winemakers in Burgundy, running 13 hectares (4.5 red), farming organically, making restrained, minerally wines. They're the new stars of Saint-Aubin and Santenay.
